Whether one is caring for a family member or attending to
one's personal medical needs, a weighty concern for all is the wellbeing of
the patient's children: Who is going to be caring for my child while I
am trying to overcome this illness? How will I be able to afford both
medical expenses and the cost of reliable childcare? This places a
tremendous strain on the entire family at a time when all involved need
tremendous support.
THE ANSWERS AND ASSISTANCE CAN BE FOUND AT DYEANN'S HOUSE.
Formed by Lions Club members, community leaders, and
medical professionals Dyeann's House is a residential support facility.
Our purpose is to help alleviate the financial charges for childcare, as
well as the emotional stress placed on children during a loved one's medical
treatment.
How
does Dyeann's House achieve our purpose? First and foremost, we act as
a surrogate family, and offer a caring, loving, fun, and safe
environment for children (from infancy through eighteen (18) years of age).
The parents or guardians of these children are seriously and/or terminally
ill, caring for a loved one suffering from an illness, or even have a
routine doctor's appointment in addition to other patients who have been
referred to us by a medical professional. Second, we provide this
childcare service free of charge, and make it available to the child
or children while their parent or guardian is being treated, hospitalized,
or at home undergoing a period of rest and recovery. Counseling is
available if desired by parents or guardians.
The children of seriously or critically ill patients are
often thrown into the adult world with adult problems: children risk
losing pieces of their childhood. Dyeann's House is a safe "home away
from home" in a residential setting with ample play room indoors and a
beautiful yard outside. Our facility has plenty of room for both
recreation and quiet reflection and important interaction with other
children who are experiencing the same frustrations, anxieties, and fears,
not to mention friendly volunteers ready to be of assistance in any way they
can.
Dyeann's House employs a part time House Attendant, and
through an extensive volunteer network and successful grant applications, we
also have the personnel necessary to meet the demands of our overall
mission.
